The Shanghai Blockchain Engineering Technology Research Center, led by Haibin Kan, a professor in the faculty of computer science, focuses on establishing the formulation of international and domestic blockchain standards. Kan and one of his students published a book, "Blockchain Technology Fundamentals and Practice," which is regarded as the textbook on blockchain technology in China. In addition to Kan's team, other teams working on blockchain-technology research are from Fudan University’s School of Economics, School of Management, School of Big Data and the Fanhai International School of Finance.

In 2016, Fudan University's School of Computer Sciences and Technology partnered with Zhong An Technology, China's first online insurance company, backed by tech giant Tencent, to establish a FinTech laboratory focused on blockchain and security. The laboratory has already applied for 143 blockchain-related patents.
