It’s been said cryptocurrency will broaden financial inclusion. Is that what is really happening so far? In this segment, reporter Leigh Cuen and Emerge CEO Lucia Gallardo talk to Christina Lomazzo of the United Nations Children’s Fund about the UNICEF crypto fund, which distributes bitcoin and ether donations to a variety of teams across emerging markets. “It’s been a really long journey for UNICEF to be able to accept cryptocurrency,” Lomazzo said, “and then make these early-stage investments.”These investments represent a few million dollars, less than a single institutional trader moves in a day. And yet, as Lomazzo points out, they are already playing into global strategies to help increase internet connectivity in emerging markets.
